A Psychotherapy Practice specializing in the needs of men, gay men, bi-sexual men, and men/young men questioning their sexuality.

As a gay identified Clinical Psychologist, I specialize in serving  gay and bisexual men, and those in questioning their sexuality.  For over 30 years I have been partnering with individuals, couples, and families facing mental health challenges, those exploring and discovering themself and their sexuality, those with disabilities and major health conditions, LGBTQ challenges and questions, and those facing significant mental health challenges.

I work with patients in the San Diego area and throughout California through a unique combination of in-person and Telehealth.  If I am working with you via Telehealth, I will travel to a large city near you 3-4 times a year so that we can meet in-person.  I find this a critical part of my work, therefore, I incorporate that modality with all those I am working with

Why Dr. Glenn Motola at GlenMar Psychological Associates?

In a space safe for gay men, bi-sexual men, and those questioning their sexuality, Dr. Glenn Motola will work with you on the challenges you are currently facing in life, individually, relationally, professionally

A Personalized Approach

My practice primarily centers around both in-person therapy as well as the use of Telehealth. Additionally, I travel throughout CA 3-4 times a year to meet all my patients in-person.  This is a critical and key part of the work I do.  Whether we sit face to face or meet via telehealth, we will walk side by side on your individual path.   As a gay identified Clinical Psychologist and adoptive dad, I will combine over 30 years of professional experience with specific knowledge of our community as we address the challenges your are facing.

Leadership with a Multi-Disciplinary Edge

Over the years, I’ve been at the CEO of  a range of large clinical organizations that focus on serving many types of individuals. From educational institutions dedicated to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders to HIV hospice services, adoption agencies, and disability programs—this multifaceted experience enriches my current practice, enabling me to offer you a holistic approach to your mental health needs.

Experienced

For three decades, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a diverse clientele—individuals, couples, and families grappling with various mental health concerns, navigating their sexuality, living with disabilities or serious medical conditions, confronting LGBTQ-related challenges and questions, and those facing critical mental health issues and substance use challenges.

About Me

Dr. Glenn Motola

I have taken a unique and multifaceted journey to ultimately being a gay identified psychologist in private practice in Encinitas and San Diego.  I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1996 after completing my predoctoral placement on a shared VA and active-duty military psychiatric inpatient unit at Travis Airforce Base and the Oakland/Martinez VA.  Post- graduation, I opened one of San Francisco’s first and largest medical residential hospices in response to the growing HIV/AIDS crisis while simultaneously completing post-doctoral hours as a clinician in San Francisco in private practice.  Shortly thereafter, I was promoted be the Director of all HIV Services for Catholic Charities CYO in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties, and led 5 medical/psychosocial residential hospices and over 250 units of supported housing. Subsequently, I led the entire 40-million-dollar portfolio of youth development, senior, HIV, adoption, immigration/refugee, transitional youth, and clinical and behavioral health services until 2007.

In 2008, I worked in Marin County where I grew and developed the Oak Hill School for children and youth with ID/DD and autism spectrum challenges.  In addition to being the adoptive dad of kids with special needs, this experience has given me great insight into the challenges and struggles of families with kids with special needs, the complex school district IEP processes, parents’ struggles, and the complex regional center system.

Then in 2011, I took the helm as the CEO of the Arc San Francisco for 6 years, followed by becoming the CEO of the Reimagine Network in Orange County for 5 years, another large clinical psychoeducational organization serving individuals with ID/DD and those with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.

Wanting to return to true clinical work, in 2023, I opened a private practice in Encinitas/ San Diego North County.   I am committed to bringing all these years of rich experiences to create a welcoming and dynamic therapeutic experience for my clients.   Having been trained in a psychodynamically oriented doctoral program, I was able to compliment my treatment philosophies and approaches with years of working with individuals facing many of life’s challenges and difficulties in real-time ways, designing behavioral programs, implementing developmentally based learning and treatment methodologies, and utilizing Team based psychobioeducational approaches to meet individuals needs and goals. I think developmentally, always reflecting and referencing one’s current challenges and situation, while considering past life traumas and challenges and how this impacts the way forward.  My approach is very client centered, holistic, and comprehensive and I will partner with you to ensure your total health and mental health challenges are addressed in safe surroundings.
